Workshop on Incorporating Immigration into the Classroom

Educator Workshop: Incorporating  Immigration into the Classroom.  With nearly one third of its residents born outside of the United States, Somerville boasts an extremely rich culture through its merging of diverse backgrounds.  But what are our stories in this immigrant city?  What dreams and aspirations brought us here?  How did we cope in a new community and in a new country?  And most importantly, what brings us together - and what pulls us apart - across generations of immigrants? This event brought educators and community activists from around the Boston area to discuss ways of incorporating the theme of immigration into local classrooms.

Smashing The Beauty Box

Smashing The Beauty Box: "Everyday, we perpetuate non-inclusive body and beauty ideals that limit our possibilities. It is time for women of all colors, sizes, and ethnicities to confront the boxes they are placed in by themselves and others and create worldviews that are expansive and empowering. This workshop used frank discussion to help women escape the stranglehold of beauty so that they can concentrate our energies on using our skills and experiences to improve their world. The discussion/workshop was open to the entire Tufts community, male and female.
